With your 2d floor plan view active select tools display options from the menu.
In the display options dialog scroll down to the walls attic layer remove the check mark in the disp column then click ok.
Select the 2nd floor room that was edited previously and click the open object edit button to return to the room specification dialog.
If you are using home designer pro check the box next to build roof planes.
In home designer pro this setting is located near the center of the dialog rather than towards the top.

This warning message will appear when you draw or place objects on the attic floor as opposed to a numbered floor like floor 0 1 or 2.
